Journey of Perseverance: From Labour to Leadership

Mr. Baldev Singh Aujla migrated to the United Kingdom in 1964 from his native village Muthadda Khurd. Like many others of his time, he started with humble beginnings—working as a labourer, then in a cloth factory. Despite the initial hardships, his perseverance led him to explore the world of business.

Although his first venture didn’t succeed, Mr. Aujla did not give up. He returned briefly to labour work and then successfully transitioned into the money transfer business, understanding the need of South Asians to send remittances back home. Later, he expanded his entrepreneurial journey by purchasing a restaurant franchise, establishing his position as a respected businessman in the UK.

Village First: Heartfelt Contributions to Education & Connectivity

Baldev Singh Aujla was emotionally attached to his homeland since childhood, especially to his village school. Driven by this deep affection, he mobilized fellow NRIs from his village and collectively raised funds for key developmental projects.

These included:

  • Construction of the village’s primary school
  • Installation of a telephone booth
  • Establishment of a post office

His efforts were not limited to infrastructure. He also collaborated with other NRIs to donate a generator to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply in the school, improving the quality of education and student experience.

Active Involvement & Lifelong Commitment

Even today, Mr. Aujla remains deeply connected to Muthadda Khurd. He visits the village twice a year and actively participates in development discussions and social initiatives. His regular presence and consistent contributions continue to inspire others in the diaspora.

Currently residing in the UK with his family, Mr. Baldev Singh Aujla exemplifies the spirit of “living abroad but never forgetting your roots.”
