Empowering Punjab A Collective Effort
Empowering Punjab” is a collective endeavor that requires the active participation of all stakeholders, including the government, the private sector, civil society organizations, and most importantly, the Punjabi diaspora. Through collaborative efforts, we can address critical challenges such as poverty, unemployment, and environmental degradation. By leveraging the skills, resources, and expertise of NRIs, we can drive innovation, promote sustainable development, and create a brighter future for Punjab.
Budhiana, located ~15 km east of Jalandhar, has about 1,577 people and a literacy rate near 79%. The village has a Govt. primary school (est. 1954) and a gram panchayat-led administration. Bus services and nearby rail access help commuting. Agriculture dominates, but a local NRI community supports small development efforts in government primary and secondary schools.
Dhilwan is a small village near Jalandhar with roughly 1,500 people. It has government primary and middle schools serving local children. Farming is the main livelihood, and the village operates under a Gram Panchayat. Some families have relatives abroad in countries like Canada and the UK, and NRI remittances have helped with minor improvements like school supplies and road repairs. Daily life reflects strong Punjabi traditions with a community focus on harvests and festivals..
Bajra is a well-organized village in Jalandhar-2 subdivision, known for its clean surroundings and community involvement. It has a government school, religious institutions, and good road connectivity. NRIs from Bajra have supported village development through the construction of a new school block, street lighting, and sponsorship of sports kits for youth. The village actively celebrates festivals and organizes social drives.
Lambra is a relatively developed village with multiple educational facilities, including a government high school. It enjoys strong NRI ties, especially from families settled in the UK, Canada, and the US. These NRIs have funded computer labs, CCTV security, and scholarships. The village promotes a strong culture of education and literacy. Community programs often involve both local and overseas contributors.
